Hello, I am thrilled that you are checking out Cornerstone Community Church. My name is Tony Slavin and I have been the Pastor here since September of 2017. Prior to that I was a Pastor for 23 years at a church in Reno. My wife Theresa and I have 8 children and 8 grandchildren who bring us incredible joy. We are both very excited to be ministering here in beautiful North Lake Tahoe where we love all the outdoor activities, especially hiking and mountain biking. If I am not outdoors then I am reading something in the area of biblical studies, historical theology, or philosophy. I enjoy a novel every once in a while, too; my favorite novelist is Stephen Lawhead. Check him out; you won’t regret reading him. If it is important to you, my education includes a BA in Theology from Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon (1991), and an MA in Exegetical Theology from Western Seminary, also in Portland (1993). Then I went back to Multnomah in 2011 and earned a ThM in Historical Theology with an emphasis in Patristic Theology. At Cornerstone, our desire is to live our lives in such a way that those who live in North Lake Tahoe will see the grandeur of our great God and His Son, Jesus Christ. Please, join us in this venture. Feel free to contact me with any questions you might have about our Church. I would love to hear from you.
Hello! I’m Gabe Cheadle, the Director of Youth Ministry at Cornerstone Community Church. My personal walk with the Lord is what it is today thanks to my youth leaders who continuously poured into my life. I have served in youth ministry ever since and feel called to share the love of Christ with our North Tahoe youth and beyond. I am honored to serve our community and bring Christ into the center of our middle school and high school students’ lives.
I’ve been married to Mario for 16 years and am a mother of 3 sweethearts: Karolina 12, Emma 10 and Dario 5. I have had the privilege to serve in the ministry of Young Life in different capacities for the last 18 years in the SF Bay Area, Rio Grande Valley and our hometown San Antonio, TX. For the last 5 years I have homeschooled my kids through Classical Education. In 2015, My husband and I achieved our educational goals when we walked the stage together to receive our Bachelor’s degrees in Organizational Leadership from Texas A&M University-Commerce. In 2015, we moved to beautiful and marvelous Lake Tahoe! During this season of my life, I am most excited about joining our committed leaders and teachers in helping our young children at Cornerstone and throughout the community shine for God’s honor and Glory. Our desire would be that they would grow confident in the Lord and embrace His Love as we partner with parents to help these kids become solid in their relationship with Jesus Christ. “It takes a Village!”
It’s a privilege to lead worship at Cornerstone Community Church. I have been leading worship since 1990, starting in the church where I was born and raised, in Stockton, CA. I have served in ministries with traditional, contemporary, and even liturgical styles, and what I can tell you is, I’m passionate about worship, especially when it’s done with excellence. Psalm 33:3 says, “Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.” My favorite musicians/bands are: Chicago, Manhattan Transfer, John Pizzarelli, Peter White, Andrea Boccelli, and Chris Botti. My education is a Bachelor of Music, University of the Pacific (1990), Master of Music, CSU, Sacramento (1998). A couple of pretty cool experiences about my time in college: my trumpet teacher was lead trumpet player for Stan Kenton back in the day, and my music theory prof studied directly with Aaron Copeland. Some resume fluff: I’ve toured Europe twice, performing or conducting in Carnegie Hall, Notre Dame Cathedral and throughout England, Switzerland, Austria and Italy. I’ve recorded three albums of original music, the last of which is on Apple Music (Praise Awaits You). Yes, jazz is my jam. Golf, fishing and yard work are my hobbies (just my yard, though!). My beautiful wife, Janet, and I have seven wonderful kids that keep us busy and fulfilled. We are truly blessed!
Hello and thank you for stopping in to look at the amazing people I get to work with every day!! How can you not fall in love with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ when you see how abundantly He is working in and fulfilling each of these people’s lives. I moved to the North Shore of Tahoe in 2002 and fell in love with its natural beauty, the people and the amazing weather we get to enjoy here all year long! I have a degree in business administration from The University of Texas at San Antonio. I first came to the Lord when I was about 11 years old. My dream as a young boy was to be a pastor. Like so many of us, I fell away from my walk with Christ during my teens and young adult life only to be nudged many times by the Holy Spirit to come back to my Father, my Savior and my truest Friend, Jesus Christ. He is, after all, the only one, EVER, that will never stop listening to me, never stop loving me and never stop being there for me!! I love getting to do all the things that the church needs to get done to thrive within the community. Keeping the church on track, open and ready to serve the community at a moment’s notice is what it’s all about! We are eager to offer assistance in any way we are called on to help those in need. Please email or call if there is something on your heart that you would like us to know about.
Women's Ministry Leader
Dell Elias was raised in Maryland, graduated from college, and figured she would live there forever until she met Bob! They have been married for 33 years and have lived in Incline for almost 25 years. Their daughters, Julie and Kristen, are the joy of their lives! The first Sunday after moving to Incline found the Elias family at this church — though that was 4 church names ago! Though their daughters live out of state, the empty nest is never boring with their three golden retrievers.
Dell was raised in a wonderful Christian home, and her parents taught her through their role modeling about service and ministry in church. She is blessed to be a part of women’s ministry. Her prayer is for every woman to find something special in this ministry. Dell believes that God has mighty plans for the women in our church and in our community!
